Blessed are You Oh Lord
Creator of Heaven and Earth
Who has allowed us to participate in this world
I pray that my action may be in harmony
with Your Divine Intent
Us
We are praying as part of a family, as part of a community, as part of the world.
We are all fortunate to have been created
Action
We say this prayer when we are about to do something that will test our patience, our sense of honesty, our kindness, our sense of security, our anger, our sense of morality or any other aspect of our best selves.
Harmony
Our actions are in Harmony with God when they are in alignment with one or more of the 20 character traits called Middot.
Divine Intent
In the largest, most universal sense, the Divine Intent of God is unknown. In a smaller, more constricted sense of the self or the community, we have been created to serve God, not through grand gestures but through the small actions of daily life. If these actions are in harmony (see above) with the 20 Middot then we are serving God in an important if entirely mysterious way. This is a central article of faith.
